AFC Bournemouth footballer Neil Moss attended the official launch of a new Dorset breastfeeding initiative on Tuesday 27th November.

The new county-wide Dorset Breastfeeding Policy is designed to promote informed choice amongst mums-to-be, and its launch will ensure that women across the county receive the same information and support about feeding their babies, whichever healthcare provider they visit.

AFC Bournemouth leant their support to the launch in recognition of the health and fitness benefits of breastfeeding for both mums and children. Cherries goalkeeper Moss was joined by a variety of childcare experts for the event, including Bournemouth University lecturer practitioner Alison Taylor, Penelope Samuel from the National Childcare Trust and Sam Crowe, a specialist in public health at the Bournemouth & Poole Primary Care Trust.

The new policy promotes the message that breastfeeding is the normal way to feed a baby. It contains evidence-based recommendations, such as encouraging mums to respond to babies’ own cues and emphasising the importance of skin-to-skin contact.

Poole Hospital’s Breastfeeding Support Co-ordinator Sue Hurst said: “The new policy is an exciting opportunity for all healthcare providers to deliver unbiased, evidence-based information to parents on all aspects of breastfeeding. It will allow parents to make an informed choice about the best way of feeding their baby.”
