Charity Cyclist Seeks Support To Raise Money For Radiotherapy Unit

Robert Bird, a Dorset resident who is cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats
and back to raise funds for Poole Hospital’s radiotherapy Wish List
A determined Dorset resident is looking for corporate and individual sponsors to support him in a mammoth fundraising challenge later this year. Robert Bird will cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats and back in May, covering 2000 miles in 14 days with the aim of raising £20,000 for Poole Hospital’s radiotherapy Wish List.
Robert was moved to raise money for the radiotherapy department following his own friends and family’s personal experiences with cancer, including the death of his brother-in-law, Mike Wheeler, from a brain tumour.
Robert says: “I am not a cyclist – I wouldn’t even say that cycling is a hobby of mine. What I would say is that I like a challenge! I have been fortunate not to have experienced cancer first hand; I have, however, witnessed the devastation this disease has. As treatment continues to be developed and improved, and more advanced equipment can be purchased, more lives can be saved.”
Robert is looking for corporate sponsors to contribute a minimum of £2,000
each. Sponsors’ logos will appear in all advertising for the event, on the
support vehicle and Robert’s own clothing in training and during the event.
Sponsors will also be mentioned in publicity surrounding the event.
Any individuals who would like to sponsor Robert in his fantastic fundraising effort can do so via his website – www.thereandback2008.co.uk.
