AFC Bournemouth captain Darren Anderton showed his support for Poole Hospital this week when he joined as the 5000th Foundation Trust member.

The former England and Spurs star dropped in to the Hospital with other AFC Bournemouth players to visit patients on the children’s unit. He and fellow players took the time to sign up as Foundation Trust members during the visit, and will now enjoy the opportunity to have a greater say in the way the Hospital’s services are developed.

Poole Hospital became an NHS Foundation Trust on 1 November. The new status means the Hospital is less restricted by central controls and has greater freedom to develop services in a way that suits local people. The Hospital is more accountable to the community as a Foundation Trust, with a Council of Member Representatives that represents the views of local people in decisions about Hospital services.

Peter Harvey, Chairman of Poole Hospital Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that Darren has signed up to become a Foundation Trust member. Membership is free, and involvement can be as much or as little as members choose, but getting involved means you can have valuable input into how your local Hospital develops.”

Anyone over 12 years old living in Dorset can become a member – visit www.poole.nhs.uk/foundation_trust or call 01202 448178 for more details and an application form.
