Poole Hospital is delighted with the news that it has been successful in its application to become an NHS Foundation Trust.

The eagerly anticipated news came from Monitor, the Independent Regulator for NHS Foundation Trusts.   The occasion will be marked by a flag raising ceremony outside Poole Hospital at 12.30 on Thursday 1 November, 2007.

Peter Harvey, Chairman of Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘This is wonderful news for Poole Hospital and a positive step forward in our future development.   As a Foundation Trust we will be less restricted by central controls and more accountable to the community we serve.

‘We have received tremendous support from staff, patients, and the local community and partner organisations. Some 4,745 people have so far signalled their support for our application by signing up as public members of the Foundation Trust.  We hope that more people will choose to support us and that together we can continue to provide more responsive services and a better future for our hospital’.

Chief Executive Sue Sutherland added: ‘I would like to thank all of our staff for their work in presenting a strong application, and to our elected and appointed Member Representatives for their continued interest and enthusiasm.  Authorisation is a strong vote of confidence in the ability of the organisation to deliver a modern, responsive service that puts patients at the centre of everything it does.  We are extremely proud of this achievement’.

Anyone aged over 12 who lives in Poole, Bournemouth or Dorset can show their support for Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust by joining as a member.  It is free, easy and need take up no more time than filling in an application form.  For details phone 01202 448178 or click here to fill in the online application form.
