Standard of care and hospital environment rated highly in latest patient survey

Poole Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the South West region for the quality of care provided, according to the latest in-patient survey
The results of the latest national In-patient Survey show that Poole Hospital continues to maintain high standards in patient care, with the Hospital ranking above the national average in many areas, including the quality of care, waiting times, hospital food and the cleanliness of wards and facilities.
The Healthcare Commission’s latest survey drew on the experiences of over 450 patients at Poole. 94% of respondents rated the care at the Hospital as excellent, very good or good, with some 47% describing it as excellent. These results make Poole one of the best performing hospitals for quality of care in the South West region.
Waiting times were also rated very highly by patients in the survey, with the length of time from GP referral to admission to hospital ranked as one of the best in the country. 83% of patients also stated that they were admitted to hospital as soon as they thought was necessary.
The food at Poole Hospital was also commended by patients, with 75% of people describing the food as good or very good, compared with 56% nationally. 89% of patients also reported always having a choice of food at mealtimes, making Poole one of the best hospitals in the South West for the standard of catering. Poole Hospital also scored higher than the national average for the cleanliness of rooms and wards, with 58% describing it as very clean compared to 53% nationally.
The Hospital was rated as the joint best in the South West for the provision of information about a condition or treatment, with 83% of patients stating they were given the right amount of information. The hospital also ranked amongst the highest in the region for respecting patient’s privacy, with 89% of respondents stating that they were always given enough privacy when being examined and treated. 82% of patients said they were always treated with respect and dignity whilst in hospital.
