Celebrity chefs James Martin and The Hairy Bikers joined pop star Paul Young and over 300 motorcyclists for a visit to Poole Hospital’s children’s unit on Sunday 16 March.

Organised by Southampton company Dockgate 20 Harley-Davidson, and supported by dealer sponsors of the New Forest Harley Owners Group, the event saw the bikers travel to Poole via Southampton Hospital, taking to the road aboard thundering V-twin motorcycles from the legendary American motorcycle manufacturer.

This is the second year that the bikers have given up their time to bring smiles to the faces of young hospital patients, and the visit was a huge success. The celebrities handed out Easter Eggs and toys to young patients at the hospital, and presented a cheque for £500 to the Poole Hospital Wish List, raised from money collected on the day.

Penny Jarvis, Associate Director of Operations for Women’s and Children’s Health, said: “Despite the miserable weather, the bikers turned out for us again laden with Easter eggs and toys for the children. I can’t thank them enough of behalf of all the youngsters on the wards who benefited, and the staff and parents. These huge gestures of kindness make such a difference to children when they have to stay in hospital, particularly those who have to spend any length of time here. They made sure that nobody was left out on the day.”

Dockgate 20 Harley-Davidson Dealer Principal Tony Tate said: “The toy run is an extremely successful event for a worthwhile cause. We are thrilled that we have attracted further support from well-known celebrities and we are grateful for the continued support from James Martin and the HOG Chapter.”
