Staff from air traffic management company NATS dropped into Poole Hospital recently to hand over a cheque for £2259.

The group of eight employees completed the 10-mile Great South Run in October 2007, braving heavy rain and a 25 mph headwind to raise funds in support of a colleague who was diagnosed with cancer last year.

The group donated the money for the modernisation and redevelopment of the Hospital’s Tyneham Ward, where Carolyn Hobbs was cared for during her treatment for cancer last year. Carolyn is now active again and says she has “nothing but praise for the treatment and care I received at Poole Hospital.”

Race competitor Rhona Murphy said: “Our motivation in doing the run was to achieve something for ourselves and for Carolyn – we wanted to raise money for something that she would benefit from.”

The group of runners comprised Sarah Dew, Hellen Foster, Sam Prince, Rhona Murphy, Craig Foster, Vicky Brooks, Mike Cowham and Richard Haywood.
