The Emergency Department offers a 24 hour service catering for all Medical, Surgical, Paediatric and Trauma Emergencies. Poole Hospital is also designated as the Major Incident Centre for East Dorset.
Poole Hospital Emergency Department sees around 58,000 patients per year. The type of injuries that are seen within the Emergency Department varies widely and for this we have a two bedded Resuscitation Room, Major Bay area with eleven trolley spaces and three paediatric trolley spaces.
The Clinical Decisions Unit holds five beds for any patient waiting for MRI scans, X-Rays or results of blood tests. Patients are also admitted to the Clinical Decisions Unit to await admission to a subsequent ward.
Patients should only attend the Emergency Department where their condition requires urgent assessment and possible intervention within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, they should go to their GP to be referred if necessary.
